Really Good News

I received the verdict. The cysts are gone! Poof, into thin air! All 6.7cm and more of it.

Finally after months of torment and trauma to my wallet, it’s the end to all the scans and consultations. Yay!

I suppose miracles do happen. Sometimes.. and with the help of my grandma’s prayers of course! I should jolly well be appreciative that it’s happened to me.

Knowing that it’ll be a long while before I’d see him (or any gynae for that matter) again, I worked up the nerve to ask what I’ve been meaning to ask and finally gotten an answer.

As expected, it was a politically correct answer. Sigh.

“…seeing so many women doesn’t affect how he sees the woman he returns home to after a day’s work… blah blah blah… women he sees in his profession are tied to their medical records and he wouldn’t even be able to recognise them even if they see on the streets!”

Boring! I was expecting something a lot more juicy… I think I looked too cheeky when asking the question that he got scared. Bleh.

Reality shows – Talent vs Appeal

24 Sep 2006 In: 2006, Archive

I think in a racially diverse country like Singapore, having reality programs is a dangerous business.

Unlike in America where there’s a large population and the votes are presumably more skewed towards musical preferences rather than “colour or race” per se, however the latter comes across more evidently here in tiny Singapore.

Just by looking at the responses… it’s a case of Malays rooting for fellow Malays while the other races are more lax and opened to options of supporting based on talent/appeals etc. Who can forget that monkey anyway?! Ick. He had support from a broad range of “fans” from various racial backgrounds! Likewise for a few others in the competition…

So anyway.. giving credit where its due, I must admit that Hady’s vocals are fab! But he is soooo “Mat” that it’s quite a torture hearing him speak in that accent. Strip him off his mat bits and there probably wouldn’t be much of him left. He is definitely the winner, talent-wise. But where looks and appeal are concerned, he isn’t impressive at all… His appeal doesn’t grow. In fact in my opinion, it seems to wane instead.

Hady can definitely sing but how successful can he get commercially? How much longevity can he have in this business? Have a great first album like Taufik? (At least Taufik seems moe anglo and not so Mat!) Sure… Then what else? Besides our small shores, where else can we target him? Sell the subsequent albums here too? Then the target market can never grow huh?

I’m a practical person and i’ll choose commercial viability anytime. At least Jon has the looks and charms to go regional. Hady? Na da…

Of cos i’m biased too. I loves guys from “boy schools”!

See! We all have our own secret agenda or biaseness. But who am I to say anything? I ain’t gonna waste any dough casting votes.

Singapore idol? Cheers to the money generating joke…

Hur.

Miracle at Bedok Reservoir

24 Sep 2006 In: 2006, Archive

Honeybee has been encouraging me to lead a healthier lifestyle for the longest time. For someone such as I who hates exercising and most of all perspiring, his well-meaning advice grated on my ears. And of course I resisted…

Imagine his surprise on Saturday evening when the rolly polly (me!) suggested that we should head to East Coast for a walk on Sunday.

So Sunday came and instead of East Coast, he dropped me off at Bedok reservoir instead. It took him great persuasion before he convinced me that it would be less distracting there.

“There’ll be less chances of you giving up and hailing a cab halfway,” he said.

“But what if i hurt myself or have a heart attack in the middle of nowhere?” I whined.

“You won’t have a heart attack. If anything happens i come to your rescue ok?”

“But if I’m in the middle of nowhere it would take you ages to get to me!”

“Then you walk back yourself lor!”

Grrrr…

So he dropped me off and I was left walking on myself with only his Nano to keep me company.

We had agreed that he’d be waiting on the other side of the place so I wouldn’t have to complete the entire reservoir but nooo! When I made it there, he was at a petrol station elsewhere! Hmpf! That made me decide to finish the entire round instead of wasting time while waiting for him. Better he wait than I wait… geddit?

A long walk and a few spurts of jogging later, I finally completed the entire course in less than 90 minutes! I Rock!!!

At the car park where he was waiting (beside an ice cream truck no less!), he actually asked if I cheated. The nerve! But I knew he was proud of me. Because he nearly gave me a dollar to buy ice cream. Twice! Hehehe!

At the reservoir

Me: “Do you have a dollar?”

HB: “What for?” he asked as he reached into his pockets. But he saw the direction I was looking at…

HB: “No! No ice cream for you! Let’s go.”

As he whisked me away from the danger zone…

At the interchange

Me: “Can I have one dollar please?”

HB: “What you wanna buy?” once again reaching for the coins in his pockets. Till he saw an ice cream cart nearby…

HB: “You ah!” then he spanked my butt.

Me: “Hahahaha!!!”

One would’ve thought that he would be so nice to let me rest after all that exertion earlier but nooo! He got me to cook dinner claiming the instant noodles I cook are tastier.

Hmpf!

Sometimes I Like Kids. Most Times I Don’t.

24 Sep 2006 In: 2006, Archive

I have been dreading my appointments at KK and it’s not just because of the money I spend each time. It’s those irritating kids I see that irks me.

Why can’t there be special rooms where kids are banned while we wait for our turn?

I had the misfortune of being in the shuttle bus where 2 bratty primary school kids were having a field day making a ruckus. Their father just sat behind them watching in silence.

Like hello?! Your kids were talking so loudly the bus was practically reverberating with their noise. Can’t you tell them to lower their voice at least? But noooo! I suppose constant exposure to high decibels has dulled his hearing so much that he doesn’t realise his kids are a nuisance.

Luckily my honeybee had the good timing to call just as I was on the brink of telling the kids to shut up (actually I was more interested in slapping them across their faces but I wouldn’t wanna break the law now would I?)… So I proceeded to whine loudly that there were a bunch of loud irritating monkeys on the shuttle bus.

I guess that got the point across as the bus went silent. Till another kid decided to give a bad rendition of the kiddy ditty, “Ke Ren Lai Kan Pa Pa“… Oh bother.

I gritted my teeth while trying not to snap. The 10-minute ride is one of the most torturous rides I’ve ever had.

What has this incident taught me? That I hate kids? While, hate is too strong a word. Let’s just say 5 minutes is enough time spent with them. They should not seen nor heard unless necessary or for my own amusement only.

Ah the irony! Coming from someone who used to work in a children enrichment center and loved most of the kids there…

I think I’m just going to end up like Miranda (Cynthia Nixon’s character in SATC) and not like kids except her own. Haha.

I pray if I ever have any kid(s), it’ll be one of the fairer sex. I’ve always preferred girls.

Is it the latest trend for religious or political figures to shoot their mouths off without thinking of the repercussions?

The Pope obviously didn’t. Mahathir is a big joke. And now, to join this infamous list is one of Singapore’s very own.

Sometimes I think the old adage of old people being wiser on account of their age is bull. Sometimes people can be senile you know? And they can be in denial while they try to pull the stupidest stunts – verbally of course. Shouldn’t they be in retirement by now? I think they should simply keep their big mouths shut. Or risk becoming a joke like Mahathir has.

I think the greatest irony for any political figure is be to known as a “founding father” of a nation in his youth only to cause a rift in diplomatic relations or in a worst case scenario, a war, due to his unpolitically correct statements in his senile older years.

I think he should apologise, take a gracious bow and retreat backstage. And stay there! The time has come for him to move on before he incurs more wrath of our neighbours.

As much as respect ought to be given, I think we as Singaporeans have a right to prevent ourselves from backlash.

I would’ve thought leaders should know better. At least now I know they are human too.

It Ain’t Cheap. It’s a Furla.

Auntie wanted to borrow a watch for her overnight trip to Malacca.

“How about DKNY?” I offered, showing her the timepiece.

She looked through my collection while muttering she preferred something brandless and small.

Since I am quite anal regarding my leather-strapped watches and being that my watches all cost more than $200 a-piece, those obviously weren’t what she had in mind as she shook her head and said that she wanted something less conspicuous and inexpensive.

Then remembering that I have two bracelet watches which might fit her idea of “small”, I rummaged through my jewellery box and produced them with a flourish.

She tried them for size and mentioned that the Misaki pearl bracelet timepiece was too long. She preferred the other but flabbergasted me with her comment. “This looks better… more dainty and cheap”.

Cheap?!

I’m not quite sure it’s an apt description for a Furla bracelet timepiece which I haven’t worn yet…

Oh well, at least she likes it and it suited her purpose. *shrugs*

How long has it been since I last logged into this account? 2 weeks? A month? I can’t remember… not that it matters anyway.

Life has been simple yet complex at the same time. Unsettling news, wasted leaves, trips to the dreadful place where the nurses are so rude! Argh… I don’t understand why this would be the hospital of choice for most expectant mothers. I’m glad my mum had the good sense to choose a private hospital.

Maybe. Just maybe… to amuse myself, I’ll finally ask the guy in the white coat if his profession has immuned him to females. What if he is actually gay? Now that will be interesting.

So am I feeling jittery about what’s up & coming? Nope. Well, maybe I’ll be a mite terrified on that day but I’m kinda looking forward to the rest. People gasp when I say that aloud… perhaps I’m really a sadist, no wait, a maschoist. But frankly, I’m tired.

Will a change in scenery do me good? But where else would I get the perverted pleasure of verbally abusing someone daily? Someone who is my boss no less! Hmm… tough. It ain’t easy being a bitch.

I haven’t been able to write in the longest while. This applies to the template codes I’m suppose to be doing. Thoughts are constantly fluttering in my head but it remains contented doing just that – fluttering about in bits and pieces. I seem to have lost my ability to be coherent.

Funny, I do seem to recall that the problem had nothing to do my brain cells. Bitchiness & bimbotism, can the two co-exist?

Apparently so in my case. Yay! I’m a bimbotic bitch who makes no sense! Ain’t that swell?!

Lalalala…

As usual it’s taken me ages to write… definitely a result of computer phobia. It’s the 2nd time now and I’m darn sure it’s become a deadly cycle. One which occurs once every six months… after spending so much time staring at excel spreadsheets that at the end of the day I come home and simply refuse to be anywhere near the computer.

But this time it seems the aftermath is unusually long. When was the last time I logged onto MSN? Mmmm… I can’t remember!

Ah well… time for Animal Planet!
